Swan Lake I & II

Swan Lake Iris Gardens span a very special 120 acres in Sumter, SC.  Its development began in 1927 as a private fishing retreat.  "Swan Lake I" features Black Neck Swans gliding the shallows on one side of Liberty Street.  "Swan Lake II" captures Black Swans nesting their babies (called cygnets) on the other.  An enclosed walkabout bridge with elevators connects the two sides.   As I pursued this fascinating area and its vibrant life, a pair of paintings revealed themselves to me.  I made sure to be there when the babies hatched.  I'm especially drawn to some of the more private hidden spots within the preserve.
